Itinerary

Day 1 and 2

Depart the UK and travel to Dharamsala

Your adventure begins as we meet at the airport for our overnight flight to one of the world’s most exciting destinations; India!

Upon arriving in Delhi on day 2, we’ll be greeted by our friendly local team who will drive us to a hotel to freshen up and hold a group meeting about the exciting challenge ahead. Later that evening we will climb aboard an overnight sleeper-train, heading towards the mighty Himalaya and the town of Pathankot.

Day 3

Pathankot – Dharamsala – Mcleod Ganj

When we arrive, we’ll be driven into the heart of the rich countryside of Dharamsala, to the town of McLeod Ganj; the current site of the exiled Tibetan goverment. We’ll check into our hotel and explore the town and its musicians, monasteries, monks and numerous colourful buildings, or relax while acclimatising to the higher elevation altitude (2000m) before enjoying a delicious dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 4

McLeod Ganj – Stowari – Kareri Village

15km, 1,800m

An early start today as we head out of town to the settlement of Stowari where we pick up the mountain trail which winds its way northwards through the hills. The first section is mostly downhill, along the valley to the local market bazaar of Ghera. You can buy some refreshments here before we cross the river and follow the ridgeline through pine trees and scattered boulders. We will eventually reach the village of Kareri, situated deep in the mountains with beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Here we will camp for the night and enjoy some rest and dinner.

Day 5

Kareri Village – Bal

14km, 1,860m

After breakfast, we follow the trail through woods and over mountain streams, heading towards the settlement of Bal. This path is littered with boulders which we weave our way through. We’ll arrive at our next campsite in the afternoon, with time to enjoy chai tea amongst the beautiful surroundings.

Day 6

Bal – Triund

15km, 2,850m

From Bal, we begin a five-hour trek towards the spectacular campsite at Triund, hidden away in the foothills. In the distance you might be able to see the might peaks of the Himalayas rising to the north. To the south you will see the flat plains stretching towards Delhi. We’ll finish at our campsite and enjoy traditional dinner cooked by our local team.

Day 7

Triund – Lahesh Cav (3,600m), return to Laka Got (3,250m)

15km

Heading towards the spectacular pass of Indrahar, we’ll pass through meadows and scattered oak trees to begin climbing upwards towards Lahesh Cave and our highest point on the trek at 3,600m. The cave is formed of an otherworldly overhang of granite rock piercing the side of the mountain. We’ll camp at Laka Got, enjoying a final night under the Himalayan stars and a good night’s sleep.

Day 8

Laka Got – Dharamkot – McLeod Ganj

13km

After packing up camp early, we’ll trek back towards Gallu Temple Dharamkot. Our last day is spent ascending and descending through forest and rocky terrain, eventually arriving around midday at the settlement of Dharamkot. Here we will transfer to our hotel in McLeod Ganj where we can freshen up and relax. In the evening we will drive to the station for our overnight train back to Delhi.

Day 9

Delhi – Agra

Upon arriving in Delhi, we’ll change trains and continue on to Agra. We’ll view the famous sites of Agra with an expert local guide, including the majesty of the Taj Mahal, the battlements and pavilions of Agra’s Red Fort, and the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri. Later, we’ll enjoy a traditional dinner amongst the local Diwali festivities to celebrate all of our achievements.

Day 10

Depart Delhi

In the morning there’ll be some free time after breakfast to pick up some last minute souvenirs, before travelling back to Delhi airport for our return flight to the UK.

Please be aware that the itinerary may be subject to change.
